German-born pianist-composer Ursel Schlicht plays improvised music, jazz, new music and world music. Currently based in New York, she has collaborated with artists at festivals around the world including the What is Jazz? Festival in New York, the Festival del«Arte Contemporaneo in Mexico, the Jaroslawl Jazz Festival in Russia, and the documenta in Kassel, Germany. She has recorded five CDs as a leader or co-leader, and has written compositions and arrangements for small and large jazz ensembles, new music ensembles, improvisational scores for silent films and music for dance theater. Ursel Schlicht has a doctorate from the University of Hamburg for her dissertation "It«s Gotta Be Music First. On the Impact, Perception and working Situation of Women Jazz Musicians (Coda, Germany, 2000).


Adam and Ursel met in 2001 at Music Omi in upstate New York. They performed again together in January 2003 when Adam returned to New York for several gigs.
