(Solo Saxophone) Etudes 1999

This recording came about because Peter Nelson wished to present a live-to-air segment on his program, "On The Corner," on 2SER (Sydney). I was in Sydney for a gig with The Engine Room at SIMA.

Basically it ended up being a private concert with my sister, Rachael, present also. I had not really focused properly on solo performance before except for a few occasions where it had just been the easy thing to do. So for this session I decided to follow the lead of Anthony Braxton (and others) in exploring particular things in each separate piece.

As a result of being prompted by my father to actually release this music on CD, I began to consider what playing solo was actually about and it has since become a vital part of my music-making. This recording really is at the very beginning of that journey!
